[edit]I changed back the italic item at the beginning to list "commander cody" variants, instead of just saying "for other uses, see Commander Cody", because of the possible confusion of commando/commander ... but I'm not absolutely certain the other way isn't better. Thoughts? - DavidWBrooks 21:47, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- Another possibility, since they aren't exactly the same, would be to drop italic item, and lead with something like "Commando Cody (not to be confused with Commander Cody) was the hero...". Pissant 21:55, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
- That's a possibility, too. The name confusion has bedevilled the article from the start. The page was created last summer as a redirect; I turned it into an article, but I've never been quite certain how to handle it. Thinking about it now, though, I bet virtually everybody who comes to this article, comes here on purpose - because most modern folks (like me) think the name is CommandER. If so, they don't need to see specific links to specific other articles because they probably weren't looking for them - in which case, your earlier version (that I recently undid) is probably best. - DavidWBrooks 22:08, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
Coming back to this issue after more than seven years (!!!) I've added a see-also at the bottom to Commander Cody, although the article has a hatnote for the confused, direction to Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airman - because there's a Star Wars character in there, too. Maybe excessive. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 11:23, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
Major work needed
[edit]I've tagged this article with "multiple-issues", specifically the near-total lack of sources (since November 2009) and its excessive focus on (unsourced) production issues, while saying little about the subject of the article, the character Commando Cody.
I initially tried to correct some of this, but quickly found that even the basic information about the three Cody-related serials seems to be more challenging to pin down that expected. IMDb, which can usually be counted on to get dates and basic production info right, claims Commando Cody: Sky Marshal of the Universe was released in 1953, but lists episodes as starting in 1955. This may be because the IMDb episode listing is for the TV releases, as this article currently suggests, but since none of that article text is sourced (reliably or otherwise), it seems pointless to rewrite too much until we can get verifiable facts.
I'm hoping to get check out some books on early SF serials in the near future. Meanwhile, I invite others to add anything they may find, preferably with sources. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 07:56, 23 April 2013 (UTC)
