Not Recorded By Van Gelder

[edit]

This album was released well before Rudy Van Gelder was working with Bob Weinstock. I removed all references to Rudy Van Gelder. Actual recording info is here: http://www.jazzdisco.org/prestige-records/catalog-7000-series/#prlp-7013

this is another one of those Prestige 12inch LPs where they recompiled the old 10inch material after that format was discontinued. If I can figure out the sources for all tracks I will add it to text somehow.

The two Miles tracks definitely are leftovers from PRLP 124 Miles Davis - The New Sounds that didnt make it to Dig. (the pg for Dig says they are now bonus tracks on the Dig CD). The four Lee Konitz tracks came from PRLP 116 Lee Konitz - The New Sounds. (a bunch of these early Prestige 10inchers were called the New Sounds). I'm sure the other six tracks are all on this pg somewhere: http://www.jazzdisco.org/prestige-records/catalog-100-200-series/

aside from that, this pg might be slightly better structured if the tracks were explicitly credited to the artists under whose name they were first released, as well as listing the players and the dates as is currently done.

actually there are 6 Lee Konitz tracks from the PRLP 116 album

I May Be Wrong & So What are from PRLP 105 Chubby Jackson All Star Big Band

the two Stan Getz tracks dont seem to be from any 10inch LP, although there are LPs with other tracks showing the same lineups and recording dates ... instead I find them as singles on another part of that jazzdisco.org site: PR 867 Stan Getz - Intoit, and PR 818 Stan Getz - Prezervation (http://www.jazzdisco.org/prestige-records/catalog-78-rpm-300-700-800-900-series//)

I added the info on original release sources, from the Jazz Discography Project website. I tried to do it in such a way that further info on each artists' session could be added in, in the future, as I have done with the Konitz and Davis material. My citation is at the very beginning, as in each case the info used is found in either the Prestige 78rpm or Prestige 10"LP page, and I thought it preferable to link once to each of those two pages rather than repeated multiple links ...

while doing so I also added the artwork for the Konitz album, because (1) I had it, and (2) there does not seem to be any other pages for Konitz albums yet. I didnt want to make a special page for one long out of print LP when all the tracks on it turn out to have been rereleased on Conception. If anybody else wants to start making pages for Konitz' complete discography they are welcome to move the artwork to the appropriate page. It is relevant here, however, because as well as being Konitz' album, it was an early Miles Davis LP appearance and therefor worth documenting, especially given that Conception is being treated as a Davis album.
