First marriage?
[edit]Ancestry.com lists a marriage between a Cosmo Bellew and Miss Nancy Power in 1918.[1] Cosmo Bellew is a fairly unusual name, could this be the subject of this article? Peter Flass (talk) 16:55, 13 April 2020 (UTC)
Kyrle Bellew
[edit]Confusingly, it seems there was a British actress who went by the name Kyrle Bellew, who starred in the 1922 version of Vanity Fair as Becky Sharp. Her real name was Violet Marion Annie Falck, and she was distantly related to Cosmo. Peter Flass (talk) 03:50, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
Parentage
[edit]Kyrle Bellew's article, while casting uncertainty on Cosmo Bellew's status, concludes that Bellew and his wife- not Alice Racketrow- were his parents. What are the facts? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.109.203.31 (talk) 03:58, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
- It's worth observing that not a single published source, per Google books, which is fairly comprehensive, provides "Alice Racketrow" in connection with Kyrle Bellew. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.109.203.31 (talk) 04:01, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
All things considered, there would need to be a well-researched, reliable secondary source affirming Kyrle Bellew as the father of Cosmo Kyrle Bellew. Apparently born in London, there is no birth record for anyone with a name at all similar to "Cosmo Kyrle Bellew" between 1870 and 1890 (allowing for his multiple alleged birth years). Kyrle Bellew was married only briefly then separated from his wife, as per his article, with sources, and at his death was simply noted to be "unmarried" and "survived by a sister", a nun. Kyrle Bellew's article tentatively suggested his former wife as mother of Cosmo Kyrle Bellew (based only on the Australian Dictionary of Biography's entry on Kyrle Bellew, which gives "Bellew died of pneumonia ... and was buried ... in New York, survived by his son"- itself contradicting contemporary accounts including obituaries, which identify his survivor as his sister as aforementioned), whose own article cites a primary document, presumably written by the article subject, giving his mother as "Alice Racketrow", of whom, again, not a single record appears to exist, nor reference in published sources per Google Books, and certainly not any linking "Kyrle Bellew" and "Alice Racketrow". The fact that Kyrle Bellew died three years before Cosmo Kyrle Bellew began his acting career would certainly allow for a convenient adoption of a somewhat distinguished name to aid the latter's nascent career. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.109.203.31 (talk) 14:03, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
