Disputed[edit]

The referenced source doesn't match with newspaper accounts from the time. The Farmers and Settlers' Association went into parliamentary politics in 1917, but it wasn't known as the Country Party, and it contested elections as the F&SA. When the Progressive Country Party was formed to contest the 1921 election, they tried to get the F&SA to merge and the F&SA told them to get stuffed and kept running under their own banner. The Mail on Saturday 29 December 1917 appears to support the ADB reference used so far in the article:

The Daily Herald managed to put a foot in both camps on the same day,

...and wasn't much clearer by the Monday.

The Progressive Country Party was a different group, as far as I can tell, and may well deserve its own article as well, instead of being lumped with one of its antecedents. --Scott Davis ^Talk 08:30, 18 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The first source seems a bit confused - it mostly talks about the F&SA as a force in and of itself, and then on a few occasions refers to it to the effect of "what will inevitably become the Country Party". The second source again talks about the F&SA's new political party, but only talks about the Country Party in a federal context. The third one is interesting, but doesn't explain why they were still usually referred to as the FS&A until the actual later establishment date referred to in this article.

Trove is being incredibly irritating with this - its fuzzy search is proving impossible to turn off so even though I've presumably done it before I cannot for the life of me get a search for "Country Party" in South Australia that doesn't turn up all kinds of irrelevant crap.
