"Curiously, Cowan once shared the same postcode as Gosford (2252) until the mid-1990's."

I'd seek clarification on this. Gosford's postcode is 2250, and has been since I was a child living in the Gosford area in the 1970s, and probably before that. The postcode 2252 is one used primarily for internal Australia Post purposes, and is allocated not to a locality, but to a sorting facility, the Central Coast Mail Centre, near Gosford. Cowan has had the postcode 2081 at least since I joined Australia Post in 1990. Brooklyn has 2083. These place both Cowan and Brooklyn in the "Sydney North" postal region's postcode range, served by mail handling facilities on Sydney's North Shore. Currently, Cowan's mail is handled by a "Delivery Centre" at the Sydney suburb of Thornleigh. Up until a few years ago, it was handled by a Mail Centre at St Leonards. To the best of my knowledge, it has never been handled by any facility on the Central Coast.

The Hawkesbury River railway bridge can be considered to represent the border between the "Sydney North" postal region, and the Central Coast one.
