Contradiction
[edit]The description of the discovery contradicts http://www.showcaves.com/english/gb/showcaves/CheddarOldham.html which says "Named after Mr George Cox, this cave was discovered during a quarrying operation in 1837. Having put his pick through a small hole Mr Cox enlarged it, and entered the cave, which he subsequently opened to the public." Reference 1 is not currently available but can be found at http://web.archive.org/web/20070815124559/http://www.cheddarcaves.co.uk/coxs.htm Derek Andrews (talk) 20:52, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I see the contradiction. Reference 1 states: "Accidentally discovered by mill-owner George Cox in 1837 when one of his workmen fell through a hole in the roof while collecting rocks for a new building.". That is essentially the same thing, just slightly different detail. I'd be tempted to take Ref 1 (from Cheddar Caves - owner/operator of Cox's cave) as the definitive version. It is also backed up by this book, which I will add as a reference. For this reason I am going to remove the contradiction notice. If you disagree please do reintroduce it and let's discuss. --SpunkyBob (talk) 19:00, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
