Regarding square golf holes
[edit]I got the following e-mail from the golf club:
Crail Golfing Society is the first Golf Club to record the fact that they used iron liners for their holes but as they were referred to as 'rings' I doubt that they could have been square.
Nice thought though.
Regards, David Roy Managing Secretary Crail Golfing Society Fifeness Fife KY10 3XN
I have been unable to find a reference elsewhere to square holes, and as can be seen above, the gold club itself does not know anything about it. I find it plausible that someone has mistaken first irons rings for first round holes. Cnyborg 22:09, 9 August 2005 (UTC)
Scottish Gaelic: Cathair Aile ?
[edit]CRAIL: Scottish Gaelic: "Cathair Aile" - has this been checked? I tried to ascertain the correctness of this but was unable to do so. I did find other references to the meaning and origins of the place name Crail.
I'm also not sure what Reference 1, which links to a recently generated two pane interactive map of Scotland and Ireland, proves. Semajmai (talk) 02:46, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
