Sequential Oxidative Addition
[edit]I think any mention of sequential oxidative addition must be accompanied by a brief discussion of the alternative: the radical chain mechanism. However, both mechanistic possibilities center on the scenario where the metal catalyst, namely nickel, generates radical intermediates. These early nomenclatures may no longer be suitable to describe the broader landscape of cross-electrophile coupling where radical species can be generated directly by a reductant, co-catalyst, or by electrolysis.
