Lactones, lactams and cyclic hemiacetals

[edit]

Shouldn't we add a section on cyclic esters, cyclic amides and cyclic hemiacetals? --kupirijo (talk) 11:29, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely should. But more important is getting the basics in place, which is far from done. Le Prof 71.201.62.200 (talk) 14:42, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to arrive a consensus outline of article

[edit]

I would invite other interested and expert editors to suggest changes to the existing outline of the article, which appears below, as well as suggesting bases in textbooks or review articles to support the outline. I will be adding Fuhrop and Penzlin's old "Organic Synthesis" (Verlag Chemie, 1983) to the Further reading, because I think its systematic content is a good source through the early 1980s. I will also be adding links to the MSU and Harvard sets of material. Here is the current outline, for improvement:

Extended content

1 Structural introduction

2 Nomenclature

3 Carbocycles

4 Inorganic cyclic compounds

5 Heterocyclic compounds

6 Aromaticity

7 Simple, mono-cyclic examples

8 Stereochemistry

9 Conformational isomerism

10 Macrocycles

11 Principle uses of cyclic structures

12 Complex and polycyclic examples

13 Synthetic reactions altering rings

13.1 Important general reactions for forming rings 13.2 Ring-closing reactions 13.3 Ring-opening reactions 13.4 Ring expansion and ring contraction reactions

Let's come up with a consensus outline, and make this fundamental article a good article. Le Prof 71.201.62.200 (talk) 14:42, 19 June 2015 (UTC) 16 References[reply]
