About the photo of Cyclomedusa[edit]

It is typical specimens of Tateana inflata Sprigg, 1949(= ‘Cyclomedusa’ radiata Sprigg, 1949). This species of Vendian discoidal fossils are sometimes preserved as three-dimensional casts with impressions of stem emanating from above the discs, although they have not been found in association with any particular frond. See: Grazhdankin, D.; Gerdes, G. (2007). "Ediacaran microbial colonies". Lethaia 40: 201–210.

It is incorrect to use this photo as example of Cyclomedusa and microbial colonies in this and Ediacara biota articles.

"Cyclomedusa" is a junior synonym of Aspidella, a holdfast structure[edit]

This has been reported in numerous publications, and Grazhdankin and Gerdes (2007) has been roundly refuted numerous times. Please see Gehling et al. (2000), Tarhan et al.
