Notes and issues
[edit]- "each Saturday" (originally "every Saturday") is perhaps suspect. There's evidence that it was weekly and that it was a Saturday periodical, but did it ever miss a week?
- I have used "eastern Bengal" to distinguish the region from Eastern Bengal and Assam and East Bengal, but original source probably needs confirmation for the claim that it was first there.
- Should Banglapedia be deleted as a non-RS?
- 1859 was from deleted source. Some sources indicate an 1858 disestablishment (https://books.google.com.au/books?id=GcQMpaavVNAC&pg=PA190), but 1861 Calcutta News (https://books.google.com.au/books?id=SJIbAQAAIAAJ&pg=RA1-PA1) indicates 1859, and this indicates a 25 December 1858 issue. It's possible that 1858 reflects what libraries have in their collections if final issue was early 1859.
- Passed from Forbes to "Mr. N. P. Pogose, a Zemindar of Dacca". In May 1858 passed to E.C. Kemp, later of the Bengal Times (https://books.google.com.au/books?id=GSs3AAAAIAAJ)
- J.A Minas published from 1858 (https://books.google.com.au/books?id=XQYzAQAAIAAJ&q=%22J.A.+Minas%22).

- May have continued or been relaunched between 1859 and 1871 -- "recently" (to 1867) and 1870 -- and turned into the Bengal Times ("The Bengal Times is the Phcenix of the late Dacca News" from https://books.google.com.au/books?id=HF9OAAAAYAAJ; "The principal English journal is the Bengal Times, lately called the Dacca News, a weekly periodical with an estimated circulation of about 250" from https://archive.org/details/astatisticalacc04kiscgoog p117)
