Biography

David Griffith Lalloo MB BS FRCP MD FFTM RCPS (Glas) FMedSci (born 3rd September 1960) is a British professor, clinical academic and researcher in the field of tropical and infectious diseases with a particular interest in clinical trials and epidemiological studies in Low- and Middle- Income Countries (LMICs).

Lalloo has held the post of Vice-Chancellor, formerly Director, of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) in the United Kingdom since 2019.

He is also an Honorary Consultant at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and remains clinically active.

Lalloo maintains an active research portfolio with an interest in HIV related infections, malaria and envenoming. He also worked extensively on the COVID-19 pandemic, in the UK and internationally.

Career

Lalloo trained in General (Internal) Medicine at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, gaining his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1984, before undertaking further training in Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine, including spending three years at the University of Papua New Guinea.

From 1992, Lalloo undertook clinical and laboratory research at the University of Oxford before joining Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine as Senior Lecturer in 1999. Further roles included leading the Faculty of Clinical Sciences and International Public Health at LSTM from 2012-2018, as well as being Director of the Wellcome Trust Liverpool Glasgow Centre for Global Health Research and the Liverpool Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD Programme.

Research

Lalloo is internationally-recognised as a researcher in tropical and infectious diseases and has active collaborations in a number of countries including Malawi, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Kenya, Nigeria, Eswatini, Ghana, Sierra Leone and South Africa.

He has worked with the Malawi Liverpool Welcome Programme (MLW) for over twenty years and has a strong interest in identifying and supporting young UK and African clinicians interested in tropical research and strengthening scientific capacity in resource poor settings.

His personal research has focused particularly on HIV related infections, malaria, envenoming and COVID-19. He has a particular interest in clinical trials in Low and Middle Income Countries.

COVID-19 pandemic

During the COVID-19 pandemic Lalloo played a significant leadership role in the UK’s COVID response, chairing the Prophylaxis Oversight Group that advised the Chief Medical Officer for England on COVID prophylaxis, and working with the Therapeutic and Antiviral Task Forces to commission two national platform studies. He was a member of the RECOVERY trial Data & Safety Monitoring Committee (DMSC) and a co-Investigator in the AGILE early phase COVID trial platform.

Advisory Roles

Lalloo chaired the UKHSA Advisory Committee on Malaria Prophylaxis from 2010 to 2019 and was a member of the Government Scientific Advisory Group on Emergencies for Ebola in 2018. He is currently chair of the NIHR Global Health Research Independent Scientific Advisory Group and an Honorary Consultant Advisor for Tropical medicine for the Army.

Awards and honours

Hi, I'm concerned that the single source cited for the great majority of the text isn't really independent and is likely to have either been drafted by the subject or drawn up based on information that the subject provided.

Also, the great majority of the edit request text appears to be either directly lifted from that source or very closely paraphrased from such. It is thus a large scale breach of the policy on copyright violation WP:COPYVIO.

I should probably also point out that strong and potentially promotional claims such as Lalloo is internationally-recognised as [etc] or played a significant leadership role etc, would need to be very robustly sourced to demonstrate not that the subject/his employer believe him to be 'internationally recognised' (etc) but that non-conflict sources also have the same estimation. (In saying that I do not mean to suggest that the claims are untrue, but simply that such claims must be robustly sourced.)

It may be useful if I point you towards the relevant policies on verification WP:V and reliable sources WP:RS.

Also please note that post-noms should not appear in the article introduction, as per WP:POSTNOM, and that an extended list of publications appears WP:UNDUE.

I also note that there is some repetition within the text, specifically regarding the use of the wording a particular interest in clinical trials and epidemiological studies in Low- and Middle- Income Countries (LMICs) and potentially elsewhere.

I'd suggest perhaps that you take a look at the articles for some similar academics and go back to the drawing board on this request. It will need to be entirely rewritten in original wording with extensive independent sourcing throughout.

In the short-term, would it be possible to amend the current text from:

to

"and Vice-Chancellor of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine".
