Major update

  • I am currently researching the history of the race through Orlando Sentinel microfilm. I expanded the race listing to its initial origins back to 1959.
  • Since this race is mostly regarded as the "biggest" race of the NBS, I think it deserves a little (or a lot) more attention than any of the other Busch series races. Being part of Daytona Speedweek, it also makes this event more notable.
  • Working on filling in all of the cels, which should be done shortly.

    • UPDATE--- got all of the dates, and all of the info from the NBS Series era posted...most of the early "modified" years done...(some years the money won is not listed in the box scores)...should be finishing up the 1970s sometime this week or so. Doctorindy 18:38, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
    • UPDATE 2 --- After a lot of research in the Orlando Sentinel Microfilm, as well as a new source http://www.ultimateracinghistory.com/racelist3.php?trackid=149, more should be filled in soon. I started some "quick list" versions of the winners until I get a chance to make the whole table filled in. The remaining 70's races are missing a few cels, and those will be filled in as soon as possible. Doctorindy 20:16, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Other race results

At the Beach & Road Course, there were other short-lived support races. The Modified series split into seperate Modified and Sportsman series races for '54 and '55. The stand-alone Sportsman races were held Friday, the Modified Saturday, and the Grand National (Cup) race was Sunday.

Sportman race (Beach and Road Course)

  • 1954 Dick Joslin
  • 1955 Speedy Thompson

For '56, the new Convertible division took over as the "biggest" support race. The Sportsman and Modified combined for the Friday race, convertibles Saturday, and Grand National (Cup) was Sunday.

Convertible race (Beach and Road Course)

  • 1956 Tim Flock (Beach and Road Course)
  • 1957 Tim Flock (Beach and Road Course)
  • 1958 Curtis Turner (Beach and Road Course)
  • 1959 Shorty Rollins (Daytona 500 qualifying race)

For the move to Daytona Int'l Speedway in 1959, the Convertibles moved to their own Friday race, and actually was one of the two Twin 100's (Twin 125's as we know). Then they actually participated in the Daytona 500. The Sportsman/Modifieds ran combined for the support race on Saturday.

So for additional research, that clears things up slightly. Doctorindy 21:46, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

More updates

Through some more microfilm research, I have uncovered more details to fill in some of the empty cels in the table. It will be updated soon. Since the race is coming up soon, it'll be nice to have this article updated some more. Doctorindy (talk) 18:18, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Rolling annual renames

Since the article is not about the most recent year's race, but the series of races, it is not only perverse but simply inaccurate to keep changing the name. The official name for the most recent race is not the name of the series, and if there is no name stable for more than a year or two, it should be Daytona 300 series or Daytona 500-week 300 series or whatever it takes to be uniquely descriptive of the series. Currently official names should certainly be Rdrs and be reflected in the lead section, but as would have been the case with The artist formerly known as Prince during that period, you make WP look like an ass if you keep renaming the article at every whim of an advertiser, and the more so when the fact is that we don't have an article devoted to one year's race.

Signal Pirates?

The term "Signal Pirates" is being used for Buschwhackers in the article. I've honestly never heard of this term. Was this a case of vandalism that never got fixed? — BrotherFlounder 20:36, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Daytona 300 (NASCAR)Daytona 300 – I don't think the word "NASCAR" is needed in parenthesis in the article title since there's no other race at the track that has the number 300 in its title. Cavanaughs (talk) 20:51, 25 September 2021 (UTC)

  • Support move. The disambiguation is unnecessary, as there is no other Daytona 300. O.N.R. (talk) 16:35, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

  • Support - This seems relatively uncontroversial and is consistent with the title of the Daytona 500 article, thus showing this race's relation to that one as it is a support race. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 10:30, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
