Condolences[edit]

I hadn't realized that Dr. Lim had passed away. I had the honor of working for him at the Revlon Materials Research Center in San Diego, from October 1985 to March 1988. He was a good boss and a great scientist; it is a pity that he didn't get more recognition for the work he did on the hydrogel lens. That never seemed to bother him -- then again, it was not a topic of conversation. He lacked the drive for publicity that his co-inventor had; not an uncommon event.

Coincidentally, I had previously worked with a former co-worker of his from Czechoslovakia when I was at Dow; she was the one who told me of his troubles in Czechoslovakia. She (Dr. Jitka Solc) told me how Dr. Lim had gone back to their home country against the advice of his many friends and colleagues, convinced that the authorities would not take any action against him. As noted in the article, here he was wrong. It took some concerted effort to gain the right for him to again exit the country. Hughesdavidw (talk) 13:20, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
