1554–1555 and 1863 droughts?

[edit]

The articles Mapuche history and German colonization of Valdivia, Osorno and Llanquihue cite sources that talks about droughts in 1554–1555 and 1863. These should be included here, supposing they are real hydrologic droughts and not ordinary seasonal summer drought. —Sietecolores (talk) 11:55, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar.

[edit]

There are a few grammatical problems with this article that I am trying to deal with including the following statement which has one obvious grammatical error, and is written in a very awkward manner:

"In Central the typical river flow increase in December did not happen in 1968.[7] Chile many farmers decided to not cultivate in early summer due to this and the known fact there was almost no snow in Andes.[7] Later in summer the rivers did grew due to glacier ablation a causing many farmers to repent albeit it was too late to cultivate.[7]"

I cannot make out the meaning of the first sentence except to propose that the second word "Central" has been somehow isolated from the first word in the second sentence "Chile". That would result in the first sentence reading "In Central Chile the typical river flow increase in December did not happen in 1968."

What to do then with the second sentence. Perhaps "Many farmers decided to forgo cultivation in early summer due to the decreased river flow and the poor snow pack in the Andes."

The third sentence, perhaps "In late summer the rivers did have an increased water flow due to glacier ablation. Many farmers, when aware of this late summer increase in water flow, regretted not having cultivated their crops. Regrettably it was too late in the year to plant."

So then the resulting section would read as follows:

"In Central Chile the typical river flow increase in December did not happen in 1968. Many farmers decided to forgo cultivation in early summer due to the decreased river flow and the poor snow pack in the Andes. In late summer the rivers did have an increased water flow due to glacier ablation. Many farmers, when aware of this late summer increase in water flow, regretted not having cultivated their crops. Regrettably it was too late in the year to plant."

If no one objects I will go ahead and make this change after waiting a few days. TDurden1937 (talk) 18:04, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think it would be appropriate to add information about how climate change is causing glaciers to melt quickly from the Andes Mountain in the 21 century. I’m new to editing on Wikipedia, so I would like to add updated information. Angelcool2589 (talk) 03:53, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
