I tagged this article as sounding like an advertisement, but I don't feel comfortable editing it as I taught there and had a very bad experience. Anyway, the main thing is that the second paragraph sounds like it's taken directly from the publicity materials. (P.S. The students were great; my conflict was with the administration. Wanted to note that in case any of my former students come across this) L Glidewell 01:53, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was a student at East-West. I new many Faculty members who were dedicated and kind. They offered their help and expertise to students. Faculty members seemed professional. It is so strange and unprofessional that the person that wrote above remarks was an actual Faculty member!!!!! obviously work ethics for that person is not an issue. Professionally, Faculty members shouldn't be bad mouthing each other. Maybe it is a blessing for East-West that this Teacher is no longer on its Faculty.

I'd say to relax a bit—just because somebody had a bad experience with the administration of a college doesn't make them non-dedicated, unkind, or unprofessional, it just means that they clashed with the administration. Faculty-administration friction is a simple fact of life at many, perhaps even most colleges and universities out there, and there are no ethical problems involved with feeling such friction. In fact, the user you're responding to appears to have an extremely high level of ethics, since they opted not to edit the page, in case their personal feelings got in the way of their ability to objectively present facts. East-West University has come a long way and now is recognized in many countries in the world. As I found out that Ministries of Higher Education for the countries I visited grant East-West a full recognition for the programs they offer. My hope now is that East-West activel seek the approval of ABET for their Electronics Engineering Program. I think ABET will propably approve this program as to the excellence it demonstarated and the many graduates over the years. I also hope that the University would start to offer post graduate programs in Technology, Computer Science, and Liberal Arts.

East-West University offers solid education

[edit]

My personal opinion is that East-West does not differ from many great institutions. They consistantly offered the same academic programs over the years. In fact, they added newer programs. The fact that they have not cancelled or scrapped any program like many other colleges do, is an evidence to the solid commitmement the Administration has for those programs. However, I have one question: Why not offer post graduate programs??? Isn't time??? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.29.240.34 (talk) 12:39, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Precise title

[edit]

This page, like others, follows WP:PRECISION. Another user claims that following the guidelines does a disservice to the readers and smacks of BURO. Of course WP:BURO says "Disagreements are resolved through consensus-based discussion, not by tightly sticking to rules and procedures. Furthermore, policies and guidelines themselves may be changed to reflect evolving consensus." But no discussion preceded the ignoring of this rule. So I'll ask: what possible disservice is there in following WP:PRECISION here? -- JHunterJ (talk) 21:41, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, let's talk about something else, let's talk about the part of WP:Requested moves which says:

Anyone can be bold and move a page without discussing it first and gaining an explicit consensus on the talk page. If you consider such a move to be controversial, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons then you may request a technical move.

Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.

So, you made an undiscussed move, which was reverted by an editor in good standing, and then you reverted it, starting a move war. I've restored the article to the status quo ante, before you began your shenanigans, and will be happy to comment on why I believe the article should be at this title when you start a RM discussion about it, as you are required to do. You are aware, of course, that being an administrator gives you no special privileges in this regard, although for an admninistrator to start a move war is perhaps somewhat more serious then for a rank-and-file editor to do, as the admin is assumed to understand policies in order to enforce them. BMK (talk) 22:59, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Can we at least start with your undiscussed move then? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:East%E2%80%93West_University_(Chicago)&diff=653519692&oldid=649249862. So you made an undiscussed move, which was reverted by an editor in good standing, and then you reverted it, starting a move war. So I will again restore the article to the status quo ante. -- JHunterJ (talk) 20:35, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No, I don't discuss things with WP:DICKs. Especially when they're admins who move war instead of following policy and starting an RM discussion. You're a disgrace. BMK (talk) 21:59, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I rely on the guidelines. You resort to accusations of BURO, DICK, and hypocrisy to move war instead of following policy and starting an RM discussion. You're a disgrace and a bully. -- JHunterJ (talk) 13:46, 18 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Slightly confusing paragraph

[edit]

"According to a non-comprehensive survey, in December 2014, East–West University had the second lowest average student loan debt per graduate in the United States. Only 1 American University was ranked above it, City University of New York.[6]" Low means down, above is the opposite. So, technically, this paragraph says that EWU is in the middle, with one school above and one below it. Kdammers (talk) 06:39, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MISSION?

[edit]

This article gives no information (except about student debt) that distinguishes the school. What is its mission? Does it have any unique or at least unusual programs? Is it an LA&S school or geared more to vocational training or some- thing else? Kdammers (talk) 06:41, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
