Mark Twain

In “His Grandfathers Old Ram” Twain tells of a man who can not stick to the point, but rambles. He mentions a family as being “ Old Maryland Eastern Shore blood”, and implies that that shows a fine family. Was there any such cachet in being from a family on the Eastern Shore?
