Page Outmoded
[edit]Hello everyone,
My first comment was going to be that the data on this page appears to be incorrect. After reviewing the 2016 HDR there seemed to be at best, many discrepancies between the document and what's recorded here, at worst a complete misconstrual of what the Human Development Index represents and the fact that it is distinct from the Education Index.
However this is irrelevant seeing as we now have a 2020 HDR. We have 2019 data to use.
I'm not particularly familiar with the subject, but I can't see an formulaic explanation for how the Education Index (now only presented as the Inequality-adjusted education index) is derived, so I propose we nix that section (as well as the 2009 and 2015 data, given they seem to be inaccurate)
If no one has any objections I'll proceed on this. Ike Saunders (talk) 07:35, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- Done. If anyone can help make the new table sticky on the Country column without the sortable table messing up, I'd appreciate it. Ike Saunders (talk) 01:43, 21 May 2021 (UTC)
2021 data now exists [1]. This is accessable via [2]. --BanzaiSi (talk) 17:52, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

Correcting Education Index formula
[edit]It seems that the formula became outdated as of 2010 and even the source they used disagrees with the formula. The source I am using is [1]. . -Edit: The reason I think it changed in 2010 is because [2], the old source for the Education Index says "The recent change in HDI occurred in [the] 2010 report...". --BanzaiSi (talk) 17:45, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

None of the data in the table match the source ?
[edit]I was planning to add the data for 2021 & 2022 but decided to also check the old reports to make sure that i'm looking at the right section and noticed that non of the number in this table even match the source and am not talking about little discrepancies no this table data is literally all over the place for all the years compared to UNDP reports also a couple of things worth mentioning :
- UNDP only started providing the Education index value in their 2000 report
- UNDP stopped using the term Education index in their 2010 report and started referring to it as Inequality-adjusted education index
So am kinda perplexed as to where all of this data is sourced from ? the only 2 logical conclusion is either all of this data is sourced from one of these random data aggregation sites (unlikely or at least i hope not) or the person who made this table wake up one day and decided to do the formula by themself using the expected / mean years of schooling data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics and "other sources" (? [1] [2]) and that's why the number are off by a moon length from UNDP numbers (which is what this wiki page is about) ? but even if that was the case that still make no sense whatsoever since all the report starting from the year 2000 provide the Education index value and self-calculating the formula will "technically" only make sense for anything pre-2000 since they never provided the value themselves.
So where does this leave us ? well 1st of all here's the link for you to check all UNDP reports for yourself, 2nd am gonna add Template:Disputed section to the Data section and have it link to this talk topic / section (?) to generate discussion about this situation before doing 3rd which is reforming the whole table (after a week from now) to include :
- UNDP data for anything post-2000
- Keep anything pre-2000 data but only after it was verified that it's 1 calculated from the actually sourced data (Ex. UNESCO Institute for Statistics / [3]) and 2 someone did the math and it adds up unanimously
- Add a direct link to the report next to each year with #page= in the URL for better accessibility (Ex. 2022 or 2022 [4])
- Add Template:Steady as QOL 196.178.176.183 (talk) 12:26, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Also another thing i forget to mention, why is the Calculation section link to some random indian blog post instead of the UNDP technical notes ? 196.178.176.183 (talk) 12:48, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
