Recent history needed

The Liberal governments 1990-2006 downsized public education, and most education above the very basic level became dependent on private schools. At the same time decreased living standards for the majority of the people caused more children to be put to work instead of in school. According to statistics published by the last Liberal government, analfabetism increased significantly from 1990 to 2006. The new Sandinist government tries to address this problem, but has very limited funds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.212.31.153 (talk) 01:20, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
