Please don't mix upp ADHD with ADD. Hallowell writes about ADD and has ADD himself, not ADHD. It's two different things, even if they have many things in common. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.225.86.138 (talk) 15:50, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

ADD as a term is not recommended anymore, even if that is what the average person knows it as. Currently in the DSM-IV, all types are called ADHD but with three subtypes: predominantly inattentive ['ADD'], predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and combined. Yeah, I'm sure you know all that, but I'm more putting it here as an explanation of why I think changes should take that into account and be really clear about what exactly we mean. Just looking at his website, he does talk about all subtypes and/or symptoms of ADHD [even if it rather annoyingly flip-flops between ADD, ADHD and more specific terms] so I think it is accurate to leave that as it is. As to which specific subtype he himself has, I can't find it anywhere. If you can find a source that says he has ADHD-PI, then change it.

Hello. I wanted to request removing information that was added by an editor who was blocked and to remove repetitive, unneccessary infoarmtion.

• Remove "Hallowell has been a paid spokesperson and consultant for McNeil Pediatrics." from bottom of ADHD Career section (this is sourced to something that looks like a press release)
• Remove excessive quotations from bottom of ADHD Career section: "In 2012 Hallowell said "The fact is, stimulant medication is safer than aspirin. It has fewer side effects and works better than caffeine, and everybody goes to Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts. So, not to try it, unless it’s against your religion, makes no sense. People say, ‘Well, shouldn’t I try a year of non-medical approaches first?’ That's like saying shouldn't I try a year of squinting before I try eyeglasses. It just makes no sense. These meds are so well researched. They've been around since 1937. That's 70 years of experience. Nothing lasts that long unless it's safe and it works. Most entrepreneurs have ADHD. 2. Removed the 2nd education section instead 3. Removed some extra details about one of the appearances 4. Added unreliable source tag 5. Done 6. I think it should be left as is, because it hasn’t been reported that he has it besides him saying it in a Q&A, but you can ask another editor.

Driven To Distraction (not the revised edition) was originally published in 1992.

I believe, also, that this book and its publication are what put Edward Hallowell "on the map", so it's not just relevant from a book perspective, and so the original publication should be in his bibliography or should be conspicuous in his timeline.

I came to this article to find out the answer to when this book was published, but found it elsewhere instead by necessity. I'm daunted by the complexity of adding the info to the article and am leaving the task to anyone else if such a person is inclined. 208.191.215.176 (talk) 18:06, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
