Shastras, Padmalaya, and Peeth

[edit]

I removed the following sentence from the History section:

"In shashtra's Padmalaya is known as 'Purna Peeth' which is one of the "Sade Teen Peeth" in India."

I gather that Padmalaya is the local temple to Ganesh (see below), and the article on shastra explains what that is, but there is still a lot of uncertainty there. The disambiguation for peeth doesn't help much, and I do not know what the sade teen peeth are (maybe a group of especially holy sites?), so I can't rewrite the sentence to make it comprehensible to the uninformed. I hope someone will come along here who understands better than I do. A. Parrot (talk) 21:50, 17 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temples to Ganesh

[edit]

Another area of ambiguity is the local temple (temples?) to Ganesha. In the version of this page that I began copyediting, it said in the History section, "A Ganesh-temple is located on the outskirts of this town in a small village." In the Geography section, it said "Padmalaya is one of the famous Lord Ganesha's temple 12 km from Erandol. The speciality of this temple is that it has two idols of Ganesha. About one kilometer from the temple is a place where fighting of Bhima and a Demon Bakasura happened and Bakasura was killed here. The water spring near this is called as Bhim Kund." And in the Places of interest section, it said, "The place "Padmalaya" is 8 km away from Erandol, situated in the hills. The Ganesh temple here is one of the rarest as it has two statue of Shree Ganesha. The Anjani Dam is 1.5 km away, constructed on river Anjani. Here is the place where Bhima had killed the mighty devil Bakasura."

Clearly the old version of the article mentioned Padmalaya twice, giving different figures for its distance from the town. Not knowing which of these measurements is correct, I didn't include either one. I also don't know if the temple "on the outskirts of this town in a small village" is a different temple or the same one. (Wikipedia articles often repeat themselves, but three independent mentions of the same place in an article of less than 600 words may be some kind of record.) A.
