French company[edit]

User:Waitak write in my Talk page:

Saluton. I've reverted your changes to Etam regarding the French company. Please see WP:NOT. Dankon! Waitak 00:53, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

What I had written was:

==French company==

Etam Developpement is an international French-based franchise of clothing shops[1]. There are four branches:

The name appears after the merger in 1958 of the German Etablissements Meyer and the French Setamil.

In WP:NOT I find:

Advertising. Articles about companies and products are acceptable if they are written in an objective and unbiased style. Furthermore, all article topics must be third-party verifiable, so articles about very small "garage" or local companies are not likely to be acceptable. External links to commercial organizations are acceptable if they can serve to identify major corporations associated with a topic (see finishing school for an example). Please note Wikipedia does not endorse any businesses and it does not set up affiliate programs. See also WP:CORP for guidelines on corporate notability.

From WP:CORP:

A company or corporation is notable if it meets any of the following criteria:
1. The company or corporation has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent of the company itself.
  • This criterion includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, books, television documentaries, and published reports by consumer watchdog organizations except for the following:
o Media reprints of press releases, other publications where the company or corporation talks about itself, and advertising for the company. 1
o Works carrying merely trivial coverage, such as newspaper articles that simply report extended shopping hours or the publications of telephone numbers and addresses in business directories.2
2. The company or corporation is listed on ranking indices of important companies produced by well-known and independent publications. 3 4
It is difficult to find reports that are more than press releases.
3. The company's or corporation's share price is used to calculate stock market indices 5 6. Being used to calculate an index that simply comprises the entire market is excluded.
"Etam Développement entre dans la composition des indices CAC Mid&Small190, CAC Small 90, MIDCAC, Next 150, SBF 250, Second Marché, ainsi que dans les indices Service Cycliques et Détaillants Généralistes liés à la classification FTSE (source Euronext)." I am not sure if these indexes are important enough.

French Wikipedia has a stub.

I am not sure if the company fills the WP:CORP rules but I certainly find a international company with thousands of stores more encyclopedic than obscure Bible references. --Error 01:56, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, it doesn't seem to me that it does fit the rules in WP:CORP, but you're welcome to try to make the case if you disagree. As for "more encyclopedic"... I have to disagree in this context, since the page is about those particular Bible references, and "obscure" is clearly a matter of opinion. Waitak 03:00, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
