Early comments[edit]

The Planet is perhaps one of the largest server companies in the world. A company that it merged with has a wikipedia article - Everyones Internet. Search google for The Planet Review and see how many sites that are about this company come up. It's not an advertisment, I do host with them, but I don't work for, get paid by, or otherwise have connections with them (other than giving them about $500 a month for servers there).

Valid points, but the article did/does read like an advertisement, and the only external references were most plausibly from press releases from the company itself. I've tried to put things in the right direction by adding an info box with some of the company demographics, etc. and rewording for clarity about their merger. 'World's Largest x' is typically going to be hyperbole. I couldn't find a good objective site that ranked hosting companies by size, etc.Cander0000 05:14, 6 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge completed, but....[edit]

I decided that given the current structure of its advertising, the sensible way was to merge it in the other direction. I don't know what the various bots will say about that. --Alvestrand (talk) 05:39, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fire[edit]

The "fire" was not a fire at as described by theplanet. There was a raid of their facility during this time period as calls to fire departments in the area didn't result in any references towards any incidents at theplanet.

While the information im referencing can be sourced from server websites using theplanets own blog as a reference to an FBI raid seems to be a bad choice for a reference.Woods01 (talk) 01:22, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So what about good ol' RackShack days?[edit]

So I guess nobody remembers that EV1 Servers used to be called RackShack...

Legend has it that rackshack.com (before Server Beach bought it) used to be the website of a surf shop or something, but eventually server beach eventually bought that domain from them and apparently forced (or at least motivated) RackShack to rebrand itself EV1 Servers.

Merger With SoftLayer[edit]

SoftLayer doesn't even have an article on Wikipedia, yet it is now running The Planet after the merger last month. This article is currently very out of date, save for a couple of references regarding the SoftLayer merger. In the end this article will likely need to be renamed for SoftLayer, with appropriate history for both of the major companies involved (SoftLayer being started mostly by previous The Planet employees, etc.) Rootrider (talk) 08:48, 26 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
