Demolition
[edit]Why is it notable that there is no date set for demolition of the Excalibur? Is it schelduled to be demolished? If so, that needs to be in the article surely. Bigbigtom367 17:00, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
South Park
[edit]Someone has added the information that the Excalibur was used in an episode of South Park. I'm dubious about whether this is important enough to warrant mention. What do other people think? JamesMLane t c 00:13, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Maybe, other cartoons (i.e. The Simpsons, Beavis and Butthead) used the likeness of the resort but not the name, South Park, however, did.
Family Murdered
[edit]Okay, there is a disturbing line in the beginning of the paragraph that reads, "A family was brutally murdered in this hotel and whoever stays in the room will be haunted." Is it a vandalism or what?
- It might have been written in good faith by someone ignorant of Wikipedia policies. In that case, it wouldn't be vandalism, but it's still junk. I've removed that and several similar passages added by the same anon. JamesMLane t c 19:59, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Proposed Article Updates
[edit]Hi everyone, at present this article has been flagged for lack of citations since June 2007. So here we are in 2011 and these problems have not yet been solved. In the interest of bringing the article up to Wikipedia's own standards, I've put together this draft in my userspace which addresses the following:
- Added citations from reliable sources throughout the article bringing the Reference count from 2 to 15.
- Transitioned the History, Attractions and In popular culture sections from unsourced lists and single sentence paragraphs to prose paragraph form with adequate citations.
Of note, the subject of this article is a client of my employer, which presents a potential conflict of interest. With this in mind I've been careful to observe Wikipedia's NPOV and Verifiability policies. I'd like to get thoughts from others on the proposed draft I have linked to above. Thanks, Jeff Bedford (talk) 20:53, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- Following up on the note above, I've gone ahead and made these changes. I am still open to any additional feedback or suggestions on bringing this article even closer in line with WP:GA standards. I hope to be able to take some new photos of the hotel to show the renovations and interior. If anyone has suggestions for other areas that would be good to photograph, please let me know. Include the murder-suicide?
[edit]I'm a little leery about adding the murder-suicide to the hotel's history section. The reason behind this is that this is not the first murder or death that occurred at or in the hotel. There was a 1996 shooting in the parking lot that ended with one person dead and another wounded. In a 2008 account, someone left a dead baby in a trash can and it was considered to be a homicide. That's just in what I could find in a casual search. I'm sure that there are others. The reason why I bring those up is not to minimize the crimes but rather show how horrific crimes or deaths within or around the hotel do not necessarily have enough of a long-term impact on the hotel to warrant a mention. Even the dead baby in the trash can didn't have that big of an impact and that received a rather decent sized amount of coverage. We're not here to account for every crime or event that happened in the hotel, just the ones that had a lasting impact on the hotel as far as the grander scheme of things go. That said, it's still fairly early and the shooting may have an impact. I'll watch to see if anything comes of it. If a month or two passes and this drops out of the media spotlight, as I'm expecting it will, then it should be removed.Tokyogirl79 (talk) 05:25, 16 December 2012 (UTC)
- I see what you mean. I just reverted an edit by an anon because he removed that section with the reason "cleanup." I see your point entirely, but as you said, it is still rather early. We might want to wait until we achieve consensus before we do anything major with it. It's a Fox! (Talk to me?) 23:52, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- As a reference point, in the US in 2010, there were 14,748 murders. I can see some being more notable then others. I guess one question is when does a domestic murder suicide become notable enough to merit an article or inclusion in an article? If we don't do this for every company where this has happened, or are we really writing negative pieces about companies or businesses? This is kind of like reporting every labor issue in a company article. Some are notable, like the one at the old Frontier on the strip that was the longest one in the country. Most others are probably not appropriate for inclusion. The same goes for airlines. Do we list every time they rate high on someone's survey? How about low? Are those facts encyclopedic or not? I'd venture that this may be the best guide and most of these one time events are simply not encyclopedic. Vegaswikian (talk) 00:31, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm going to officially put my vote in for "delete it from the section". I'm googling the casino and looking at the news hits and nothing is coming up for this murder-suicide. It looks like it got a handful of news stations covering it for a few days in mid-December, but after that it just dropped off the radar. It looks like it was just a "routine" homicide and will have no impact on the hotel at all. If it was going to be a big thing, it'd still be in the news now or there would be some sort of group talking about it. I don't even think the names of the people involved ever got mentioned, so that sort of says something right there.Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:48, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
