Combined[edit]

I would like to try to explain (in simple English): In 1948, Combined was carried out with a separated slalom-race (2 runs), added with the result of the "Special Downhill Race". It was at last that Combined counted for the Olympic Results. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1950 didn't consist the "Combined Events" (but at first the "Giant Slalom"). Alpine Skiing races in the Winter Olympics 1952 counted as well Olympic as World Ski Championships; like two years before there were no Combined Event. Since FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1954 the Combined was carried out. The Alpine Skiing races in Winter Olympics are also FIS Alpine World Ski Championships - but Combined didn't count further for the Olympic Results (1956, 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976, 1980). Since the Winter Olympics 1984 the Alpine Skiing Races (as well as Nordic Skiing Events) don't count for FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, and since Winter Olympics 1988 the Combined Event is a part of Winter Olympics. --213.225.35.71 (talk) 17:12, 27 December 2016 (UTC).[reply]

Defending Champions[edit]

Since the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 1982, World Skiing Champions of the last FIS Alpine World Ski Championships were allowed to defend their titles (out of the limited number of four racers for each nation). So the Gold medalists of 1980 (who were as well Olympic Gold medalists as World Champions) could do it. Ingemar Stenmark was the only one who could defend a title (the title in Special Slalom); Leonhard Stock finished 15th in the Downhill Race - and Phil Mahre (winner of the Alpine Combined) didn't take part. - Annemarie Moser-Pröll had retired, Hanni Wenzel was injured (there are no notes if she indeed took part; I could only find a notice, saying that she had announced to take part; in German Wikipedia it is sayed that she didn't finish as well Special Slalom as Giant Slalom - but it could be possible that her status was "did not start"). - Permission for defending champions is only concerning FIS World Ski Champions (Alpine and Nordic) but not Olympic Champions in Alpine (or Nordic) Skiing Events. 213.225.35.71 (talk) 17:52, 27 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
