Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel

Although I'm sure most of you don't need reminding: FLCL will be airing, in its entirity, tonight starting at 11PM EST on Cartoon Network. Please pay special attention to Marquis de Carabas; the plot summary for that article hasn't been written yet-Litefantastic 16:15, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

  • I just recently added an extensive plot summary to Marquis de Carabas. However, I would still encourage watching the episode as you may find things I missed or be able to explain events better. --Gunblade (dicemus) 19:05, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

References

Come on, doesn't anyone actually own the DVDs? I'm quite positive that there's a commentary track on it that can be of use. At least I remember one when I borrowed them from a friend. Also, someone needs to fix the references section, it's all bold and ugly.--SeizureDog 19:06, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

Peer Review Status

These are our problems, as viewed by an outsider:

From: Wikipedia:Peer review/FLCL/archive1

"*Over half the lead is about something called 'adult swim'. This is not en-US.wikipedia - or pretends not to be.

  • No meaningful references, #1 uncontroversial fact, #2#3#4 meaningless as 'reception' indicators.
  • Too much list and opinion-prose, not enough actual encylopedia content.
Feel free to ignore all this though, it's perfectly possible to get an anime article featured that deals only with North America. --zippedmartin 00:03, 6 August 2006 (UTC)"

Case for

A unique cult anime whose article has recently bloomed into a host of separate pages and is ripe for a mass overhall. It's largely complete, if rather densely worded, and could use some fresh people tooling with it. -Litefantastic 22:16, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Even though the total has been met, I'll add my vote for insurance. Jake52 My talk 19:24, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Likewise here then. While already a B-Class article it could use a freash outlook besides the people who have beenw orking on it alread. Ariolander 19:48, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

"Naota's adolescent sexual coming of age."

I disagree with that statement. FLCL is about Naota growing up, but sexual coming of age? dposse 03:52, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Well ... the basic purpose of puberty aside, while Haruko's behavior usually has sexual overtones towards him, and the baseball ep seems to have "metaphor for losing your virginity" written all over it, particularly in the ... er ... climax, but you're right, it isn't literally "sexual coming-of-age" that I can see. --Yar Kramer 04:51, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Agreed, it seemed to be more about Naota's general coming of age rather than a sexual coming of age.--Chad Hennings 14:27, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
My point exactly. Growing up means becoming a man, and that includes sexuality. FLCL is about Naota growing up. So, how should we change it? dposse 18:41, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
I agree, and changed it. Just removed the word "sexual" and the rest of the sentence still flows just fine. -- Laura S | talk to me 18:14, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

episodes

"The total run-time for this show is three hours with commercials, and with the credits cropped off the final episode."

Can we get an official time as to how long the anime is from start to finish? If anyone has the DVDs, they could help. dposse 18:51, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Thank you, people of Wikipedia!

I'd like to personally thank all of you who answered my call and rallied for FLCL! Ladies and Gentlemen, we have one week... the drive begins now! -Litefantastic 23:11, 6 August 2006 (UTC) Actually, the drive began about ten minutes ago, but this is close enough for me.

Head picture

I think I've found a suitable picture for the top of the article: [1]. The same picture comes as wallpaper at adultswim.com, and in regular form on the Russian FLCL article. What do you think? -Litefantastic 23:38, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Fun while it lasted: Time to sack the trivia section?

As pointed out on Wikipedia:Peer review/FLCL/archive1, the trivia section kind of undermines the article's encyclopedic intent. I question this: I've used Microsoft's Encyclopedia Britannica 2001, and IT had trivia. The trivia section definitely needs an overhaul for credibility (it can't be good to have a link to a messageboard) but is it time to go altogether? -Litefantastic 23:35, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I disagree. As long as we keep it Encyclopedic, it should be able to stay in the article. dposse 17:12, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
The Trivia section is full of some great information, although I agree it's awfully list-y. I think it just needs to be reworked into prose (some of it may need to stay in list form but certainly not all of it), and then maybe integrated into other areas of the article. Then the Trivia section could go away entirely or at least be significantly reduced. It's possible anything that can't be worked into the article really doesn't belong there. The bit about undermining the encyclopedic intent probably comes from discussions I've seen in which people question the value of a Trivia section. That would keep the content but satisfy those who don't like to see a Trivia section. Sadly this would be a large effort and I just don't have the time :( -- Laura S | talk to me 18:21, 8 August 2006 (UTC)
Update: I decided to be bold and try to clean this up a little. Some of the triva made sense in other areas of the article, so I moved them. I merged Title and Translation into Language since they really discussed the same thing. At this point I'm looking at the Characters trivia section. This is true trivia and if it belongs anywhere it would be the Characters article. I like the "left-handed" bullet point but the rest probably don't belong. I'm going to try to deal with that next. -- Laura S | talk to me 02:02, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok cleaned up the Characters section. The trivia section isn't perfect still, but hopefully it's a lot better. -- Laura S | talk to me 02:10, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks! -Litefantastic 22:09, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Document your pictures!

Those of you uploading pictures to the FLCL family of articles should add them to Category:FLCL images. To do so, just type "[[Category:FLCL images]]" into the edit summary. Also, alphabetize. For instance, if the picture's name is Image:A1-FLCL.jpg, type "[[Category:FLCL images|A]]" into the edit summary. -Litefantastic 23:51, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
