How to make family trees

Several ways of making family trees for Wikipedia are discussed at Wikipedia:Family trees. [[User:dusan zec 1942

Amazing to learn that my ancestor's brother-in-law was (Draco, Dragas, Dracos, Dracas, Dracus, Drago Black) I am desended from the Honorable House of Black, with my first ancestor (Arcturus Black (1037- 1121) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.191.117.140 (talk) 23:55, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Riddle?

Would somebody like to help me with this riddle:
"Brothers and sisters, I have none, but this man's father is my father's son. Who is this man?"

"This man's father is my father's son" --> "This man's father is me" --> "I am this man's father" --> "This man is my son." 24.250.105.29 16:22, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

I remember there being some links to websites that have programs simulating family trees, most of them were just trials that you had to pay for later, but I thought they were helpful anyway.--195.229.242.90 16:30, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism

Reads like vandalism - someone's being an idiot so I've restored the external links and pedic notes.Julia Rossi 02:16, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Genelogy Wikis

I greatly expanded the wiki section. However the I read the warning at the head of the external link that said that pages should not have links that weren't referenced unless they are major. So I guess the links need to be edited.

I did create a wiki section on the "Genealogy Software" Page. I split into four parts. Any comments are welcome. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Socrtwo (talkcontribs) 04:28, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Ancestors vs Descendants

Looks like there is a discrepancy. The article defines the tree as "totality of one's ancestors," which would imply a chart showing you, your parents, your parents' parents, etc. But the graphic Family_tree.svg shows descendants: Lucas Grey, his children, his childrens' children, etc. Nearly all definitions of family tree I found indicate ancestors only, but there are references that include descendants excplicitly (i.e., American Heritage).

Unless there are objections I plan to change the definition of family tree to "A family tree is a depiction of one's ancestors and/or descendants represented as a tree structure, or more specifically, a chart used in genealogy." Any objections or other comments?

Both are terrible definitions! Who is "one" exactly??? I'll do one. Johnbod (talk) 23:44, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Agreed that they weren't very good. Thanks for the change. That first sentence still drags on a little so I'll see if I can get it a little more clear. ManiacalMonkey (talk) 23:23, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
