Bab Jial and Bab Ziat (and other possible random gates)

[edit]

I've removed "Bab Jial" from the list because, apart from the one mention of it at ArchNet (and unfortunately ArchNet is useful but not 100% reliable), I can find no information on it or reference to it anywhere else. I also know (or heard) of an entrance called Bab Ziat, but couldn't find any real information on it either so I've left it out (I think it's just another opening near Bab al-Hadid or somewhere along that area).
There are a number of various minor gates and entrances in the perimeter of the medina nowadays, so some of these might just be small gates (perhaps created recently) that don't have much historical significance and that's why there's nothing published about them. If anyone finds reliable information about them, please go ahead and add (or re-add) them in the list; though, ideally, please give some context or information about them. Proposed merge of "Gates of Fez" to this article

[edit]

I think these two articles could benefit from being merged. The two topics overlap a fair amount already since the gates are part of the wall and I would argue that they are best understood in the context of discussing the fortification/wall system of Fez in general. Neither article is very long, especially the Gates of Fez article which is basically an expansion of a section already existing on this page, so the merged page would be very manageable. I've tried finding other examples to compare with, and the best ones I could find – London Wall, Edinburgh town walls, Walls of Constantinople, Walls of Amsterdam, Fortifications of Valletta, etc – all include discussion of city gates in them (to varying extents, since not all of them have preserved their gates) rather than having separate pages. (There's also Walls of Marrakesh as an obvious example, but since I created and wrote most of that page too it seems like a moot comparison.) R Prazeres (talk) 22:48, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just pinging JahlilMA here, who created the Gates of Fez article, to give them a heads-up in case they'd have some input. R Prazeres (talk) 22:55, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's been a bit over a week now and I haven't seen any discussion, so I take it there isn't notable opposition to this. As per WP:MERGECLOSE, enough time has passed without opposition so I'll go ahead and make the merge shortly. R Prazeres (talk) 19:09, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi R Prazeres I just noticed your message. I think this article is extensively written and the merger makes total sense. Thank you for your dedication and amazing amount of output as always. JahlilMA (talk) 08:52, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
