The 'terreplein' term means 'part of fortification' - why is it used to denote the complete sectors of fortifications, moats, walls, bastions, and all? Is this a correct usage?

'Terreplein of Spain' section: It avoided that the cannon could have a free range on the walls and in case of the assailants invading the moat could be reached through underground passages -- rather hard to understand. What was avoided, and what was it possible to reach? Yury Tarasievich (talk) 07:35, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
