Fox is not only of English/Irish origin.[edit]

The article asserts without reference that

Fox or Foxe or Foxx is a surname originating in England and Ireland. The derivation is from the Middle English "fox", itself coming from the Old English pre 7th century "fox". The surname first appears on record in the latter part of the 13th century, with the first recorded spelling in 1273 to be that of John Fox in the "Hundred Rolls of Yorkshire", England.^[1] In Ireland, Fox is mainly a translation of the Old Gaelic "Mac a'tSionnaigh" (son of the Fox).^[1]

This assertion is at least incomplete. My family name is Fox, and one of the persons linked in the article is my paternal grandfather. He was of Jewish ancestry, and his case the name is probably an Anglicization of Fuks or Fuchs, as it is for many persons of ancestry originating in central Europe who use this surname. 138.100.101.11 (talk) 10:35, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
