Are different Francises of Soto being confused

[edit]

How many Francisco de Sotos were there? One with the same dates is recorded in the first disc of late Gothic and Renaissance Masterworks [1] which is based on Luys de Henestrosa's 1557 collection Libro de Cifra Nueva para Tecla, Harpa y Vihuela. and is also listed here [2]. However, I notice that this article concerns one with dates 1534-1619 who was young ebough to make the collection. A musician of that name is mentioned in [3] as active in the imperial court in Madrid. WHat evidence is there that our composer is the same Francis of Soto mentioned as one of the 12 Friars active in the Yukatan e.g. here? There is also a bishop of that name active at the same time [4] and an inquisitor [5].

The point of the above is that I'm suspicious that two people are being merged in this article. Has someone got evidence that the missionary was a composer and what his dates are?
