I will review this article. Expect comments within a few days. Snuggums (talk / edits) 18:49, 21 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox
  • A picture would be nice to have here
    Yes. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So why is there no picture in it right now? Seems incomplete without one Snuggums (talk / edits) 01:19, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    I don't have one. Hawkeye7 (talk) 02:26, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Google Images has tons of pics you can use. Keep in mind that using non-free images is fine for biographies of the deceased. Snuggums (talk / edits) 03:51, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    I have uploaded one I have on my server. Hawkeye7 (talk) 04:14, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. As the pic has an appropriate FUR and is (obviously) relevant to the article, I can now pass this for GA. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:23, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • For an American subject, MDY format should be used for dates per MOS:DATE
    Converted the dates. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Lead
  • Is Spedding known to have had Canadian citizenship? If not, he should simply be described as an American chemist rather than a Canadian American per MOS:BIO, which says to generally just include nationalities.
All the sources call him a Canadian, but he acquired U.S. Citizenship when his Canadian father was naturalized. Added this. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • See above note on MDY format
Early life and education
  • Again, use MDY format
  • His mother's maiden name (Marshall) should be included
    Added. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Did Spedding have any siblings? If so, include their names and whether they were older or younger
    None are recorded. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • A "was" should be placed between "he" and "born" in "Soon after he born"
    Corrected. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "showed great promise" doesn't really seem formal or neutral
    Deleted. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Early career
  • I've said it before and I'll say it again: please use MDY because this is an American subject
  • How and when did Spedding first meet his wife Ethel? How long were they together before marrying??
I know how, but not precisely when It was while he was at Berkeley, which means somewhere between 1929 and 1931. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • When was his daughter born?
    In 1939. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Add a comma after "Around this time"
    Done. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Manhattan Project
  • MDY, not DMY
  • "The best way"..... most effective would be a better description
    Uh.. okay. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Later life
  • I'd make these four short paragraphs into two or three longer paragraphs per MOS:PARAGRAPHS, which discourages really short paragraphs
    Done. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Once again, please use MDY
  • "Over the years" → "Throughout his career"
    Done. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is "250 peer-reviewed papers" referring to the 260+ articles mentioned here on page 3 of the PDF?
    Yes, Changed to 260. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Dead link needs to be replaced
    Restored from archive. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • This does not explicitly mention December 15, though I did find that date here, and it can be used in place.
Added. It does implicitly though, since we know December 16 was a Sunday, so Saturday was December 15.
  • It's probably worth including he had three grandchildren at the time of his death
Done. I don't normally include grandchildren, because often more are later born.
  • If known, I'd include what Spedding died from
    Not known. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Patents
  • I don't see how this section is really needed as it only contains a list of links
    Removed. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Notes
  • Again, MDY should be used
  • For FN16, I don't think it's necessary to include page numbers for the Seaborg PDF or have it as an sfn ref as it is the only reference to this document
I like to keep the books down there together. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Even so, the PDF wasn't exactly a "book". I've adjusted accordingly.

All points addressed. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:48, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry for not getting to this sooner, Hawkeye7. Good work so far. The main thing this needs right now is an infobox image. Snuggums (talk / edits) 01:19, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Overall
  • Well-written?
  • Prose quality: Decent, but needs improvements
  • Manual of Style: Could be better
  • Verifiable?
  • Reference layout: Questionable use of "Sfn" for one of the refs
  • Reliable sources: Looks good
  • No original research: Close, but not quite
  • Broad in coverage?
  • Major aspects: Mostly good, but a few bits are missing
  • Focused: No excess detail
  • Neutral?: Almost
  • Stable?: Nothing of concern
  • Illustrated, if possible, by images?
  • Appropriate licensing: Does not apply since there are currently no photos used
  • Relevance and captioning: It would be worth adding a picture of Spedding to the infobox
  • Pass or Fail?: Placing this on hold for seven days. Not too many problems with the article. Snuggums (talk / edits) 03:35, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
