- Remark: In Ludwig Dinklage, Hans Jürgen Witthöft: Die deutsche Handelsflotte 1939-1945 (ger.), ISBN 3-933203-47-3, Bd.II p.18-20,51,55 documents that the Portland came home successfully from South America. It did a further travel to Japan. On the way back it sunk 10.4.43 West Africa. --JuergenKlueser (talk) 09:21, 11 October 2015 (UTC)
