Dissolved oxygen anomaly[edit]

A perennial spring originating from Mount Shasta snow melt emerges from a lava tube into a pond 20 km from the summit under pressure causing a kinetic energy-induced surface elevation increase (or boil). Dissolved oxygen sensors inserted into the throat of the spring reveal diurnal variation. Although the trend is what might be expected of photosynthesis, the reaction rate appears unrealistically rapid for an unmixed source uncolonized by algae. Soluble concentrations of arsenic and antimony suggest the possibility of oxygen release from photo-catalyzed decomposition of unstable oxo-anions. Can anyone offer a reference supporting that hypothesis?Thewellman (talk) 19:09, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
