Merge discussion

[edit]

As the C30-7 topic already discusses the C30-7A, I feel that these should be merged --Chesapeake 04:58, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A large number of ex-Conrail C30-7As are now running in Estonia. As of this point in time most of the news about these locos is going to refer to their Estonian rather than US duties. It might be sensible to leave a reference to the US-based C30-7A's in the C30-7 pages, allowing this C30-7A page to develop concentration on the now Estonian locomotives. I agree the pages should be merged. I do not see how some units having found their way over to Estonia makes a distinction deserving of a completely separate article. Do we create a new locomotive model entry every time a locomotive gets sold overseas under a different designation? I think that would be quite cumbersome. Whatever modifications are made for overseas service, any American-based locomotive is still part of that model lineage and should be discussed as such. Since the C30-7A was born of Conrail's late request for the manufacture of C30-7's after the model had been discontinued, I am all in favor of merging the C30-7/A articles.
