I have seen fossils of this species before in museum exhibitions, and have a query - if the skeletons are lacking a skull, what was the basis for the skull used in said exhibits (it is very recognisable)

I was curious along the same lines. In the article, it states that Gasosaurus is known to be a carnivore as it has a robust skull. However, the skull has never been found. I am not doubting whether Gasosaurus was a carnivore, I am simply saying that such a statement cannot be made. You cannot say it has a robust skull if the skull is unknown. Do the newly uncovered specimens reveal any information about the skull? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.97.34.130 (talk) 22:12, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to be based on (assumed) related forms. It's common (standard practice, usually) for museums to complete mounted skeletons by creating missing bones using educated guesswork. Sometimes they get a little artistic, like the famously Deltadromeus skull with prominent lacrimal horns there's no evidence for. Of course, any mention of skull characteristics should be removed, because there is no skull known. Dinoguy2 (talk) 02:09, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New specimens of Gasosaurus

[edit]

According to http://students.washington.edu/eoraptor/Carnosauria.htm, Gasosaurus is a carnosaur, based on newly uncovered specimens (Currie, pers. comm., 1998, to Holtz).

Right, which is why it's listed as ?Carnosauria here. I'm hesitant to incude this in discussion or to solidly refer it to carnosauria based on personal communication, howver. If and when the new specimens get published, this can be expanded upon.Dinoguy2 20:12, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
