Talk:Gate Gourmet

[edit]This page shows a highly partial attitude to the GG dispute, which resembles the Grunwick case in few and rather shallow ways and has now been shown at Employment Tribunal to be based on false accusations and union half-truths.
Outdated information

Disclosure: I'm employed by gategroup (Gate Gourmet's parent company).
Some of the information in this article is outdated while more recent developments are missing. It is in the interest of readers that information be up-to-date and reflect current events.
For example, the numbers in the following sentence should be updated: As of 2004, it had 22,000 employees, had a revenue of 2.4 billion Swiss Francs, and produced 195 million flight meals per year. 2015: 28.500 employees, revenue of CHF 3.1 billion, more than 350m passengers served per year
The section about the Fernley and International Aviation Services takeover is of little interest today as it concerns an acquisition made almost 10 years ago. However, Gate Gourmet's parent company gategroup is itself about to be taken over by China's HNA Group. I would therefore suggest that the section about Fernley and International Aviation Services be replaced with the HNA takeover offer. Philipp Eberhard (gategroup) (talk) 08:54, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Philipp, and thank you for alerting the editors about this issue. The update you provided is sourced only to your company's website. Would it be possible to provide confirmation of the figures with an outside news source? I am not convinced the IAS takeover should be removed just because it happened a long time ago. Wikipedia articles on corporate entities typically contain a balance between current developments and the company's past history. If you can provide a neutrally worded, non-promotional sentence describing the HNA takeover offer, that can be added to the article. Thanks, Altamel (talk) 22:18, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi Altamel, thank you for your feedback. Gategroup's revenue in 2015 has been reported by Reuters. The number of employees is mentioned in a neutral source from last year. The figure is not exactly the same as it refers to an earlier point in time. I didn't find a neutral source for the number of passengers served. I wouldn't expect to find this figure widely reported and the original article did not name its source either.
I understand the need to include past events and thus the reluctance to remove the IAS takeover. As you point out, the idea is to strike a balance between past events and more recent developments. I just feel that the IAS takeover is given too much space taking into account that it happened so long ago. By comparison, the 2010 Cara Airline Solutions takeover is not even 1/10th as long. Perhaps we can agree to shorten the IAS takeover? This is how I would phrase it:
In September 2007, Gate Gourmet acquired a leading UK-based group operating under the Fernley and International Aviation Services (IAS) brands. The acquired companies offer a comprehensive range of aviation special services and were renamed Gate Aviation.
The original press release about the IAS takeover seems not to be available on our website any more. Here is an external link instead: http://www.prnewswire.co.uk/news-releases/gate-gourmet-acquires-aviation-services-provider-153681625.html
As for the HNA takeover, here is my suggestion:
In April 2016, Chinese conglomerate HNA Group offered to buy gategroup for 1.4 billion Swiss francs[1].
Thank you.
