Gerry's TV.com listing

[edit]

I noticed some conflicting data between Gerry's page and that of Bea Benaderet, which I believe to be the product of vandalism. This seems to stem from Gerry's TV.com page, which also appears to be vandalized. Simply put, I could find no corroborating evidence to support the edits made by the person claiming to be Gerry's daughter, which, by the way, is not good enough to justify making sweeping edits to a Wiki article. I'll do some further investigation, and if I find that I am correct, I will most likely amend the TV.com listing as well.

Just so there isn't any doubt, the person who I have alleged to be a vandal claimed that Gerry Johnson joined The Flintstones following the 1966 death of Bea Benaderet, which is blatantly false, not only because Bea actually died two years later (a fact which even TV.com supports), but because The Flintstones would have already been off the air by this point. I wonder how you account for Gerry Johnson's death certificate, a copy of which I have in hand at the moment, which lists her death as occurring on January 24, 1990, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles, California? Was it a delay in reporting? If you still can find no corroborating evidence, please check with Stanford University; my Mother's friend and fellow Stanford alum, Eloise Lambert, sent the notice of her death to the Stanford alum magazine after my Mother's death in 1990. Or you could check on the royalties that Gerry Johnson was paid for The Flintstones after 1966 if you don't trust public records.

And yes, I did correct this information on TV.com as well. I do have my Mother's death certificate and my birth certificate, and there are many public records of the facts I stated. Also, you can contact me directly instead of presuming I'm a vandal.

By the way, I wish you'd read my article before deleting it. I did not claim that Gerry Johnson joined The Flintstones after Bea Benaderet's death, I claimed, as you can check, that Bea Benaderet left The Flintstones to take a role on Petticoat Junction and my Mother, who had been doing some of the specialty voices before that, took over the role of Betty. I agree, they were both alive at that point.SLSpence (talk) 22:00, 21 December 2010 (UTC)Sherry Spence, daughter of Gerry Johnson. December 21, 2010.[reply]

Bea Benaderet left Flintstones - That's not true. Bea Benaderet was doing both shows simultaneously until she was replaced by Johnson. And the reason she was replaced is just mind-boggling.Radiohist (talk) 14:02, 18 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Gerry Johnson Biographical Info

[edit]

Hello, SLSpence, I have always been curious about the total lack of data about Gerry Johnson in the media. She appears not to have any Hollywood credits after 1966, did she leave the industry?

Could you provide more information about her, such as birth date, place of birth, full name at birth (presumably "Gerry" is not a legal name and short for Geraldine (??)). I could not find an obituary mentioning "Gerry Johnson" at either Newsbank or Google News Archive. Was one published in any California (or elsewhere) newspapers at the time of her death?

Her seeming disappearance from Hollywood in the 1960's and Bea Benaderet's death in this period may have led to confusion over the years that Gerry Johnson also died around this time. It's also possible that another woman named Gerry Johnson died in 1966 and this was presumed to be the voice actress. It would be very helpful for wikipedia confirmation - and Flintstone fans/buffs in general - if you could perhaps start a small web page or blog on her somewhere on the net with photos, information, and the like with information about her life and history. She's an important part of Flintstones history and such a site certainly would be appreciated by animation scholars as well as just plain fans, thanks. Her car was struck from behind in the late 1960's by a drunken driver and she suffered from improperly diagnosed spinal injuries for the rest of her life. She did continue to work in Hollywood occasionally, both voice-overs and plays. She lived in New York City for seven years in the 1970's and did some work there. She also did some 7-11 commercials in Dallas, TX, where her husband consulted. Her constant pain and failing health did not permit as much activity as she wanted, and she wouldn't explain publicly the cause of her inability to work. I have her bio and a fair amount of historical information and pictures. Much information to add, but I can't do so just now. I've inherited my mother's systemic arthritis which seems to affect the spine most severely. Ironically, I was struck from behind by an inattentive driver while on my way to the first physical therapy following spinal surgery. Life's little ironies are sometimes not so little. I'll try to add something suitable when I can. And constant pain does make one cranky, but I promise to be more civil in future. I'd like to respect Gerry's reticence about her health to the extent possible. Perhaps you could review what I write.--SLSpence (talk) 15:08, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
