Can't we dig up some better alumni than B grade AFL players. Also, I'm pretty sure James Thompkins never whent to Staggs. Can anyone confirm this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.139.47.125 (talk) 03:53, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While it would have been nice if he had done so, Simon Gregory did not win the Nobel Prize —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gregorsi (talkcontribs) 11:31, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, as a student the talented alumni hardly runs thick and fast. Although I can confirm that James Tomkins was at Gippsland Grammar.Albeit for a year in junior school. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TrippyBear (talkcontribs) 06:20, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is embarrassing - we are now listing AFL draftees that have never even played a game as notable alumni. Whilst I am sure they are nice guys, at this stage they can hardly be considered in the top 10 or so of the school's most notable alumi. Unless there are some objections, I sugest that we delete them. A few good alumni is far better than a large bunch of nobodies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.139.47.125 (talk) 00:19, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Out of date and Notability

[edit]

I have noticed that Lindsay Tanner is down as Federal Finance Member and MHR... Certainly that should be former Federal Finance Minister and former MHR.

Next is it really notable that Jan Henry was school captain or head of year 9 for many years? I mean that level of detail?

Other than that I would like to be on the notability of one James Lu in a few years time. But that is neither here nor there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BullNiro (talkcontribs) 06:09, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As of April 2006 there were 786 students enrolled in Garnsey Campus and around 250 in St. Anne's Campus

Can you please replace the entire History section with the following: The Church of England Girls’ School was founded in 1924 by the Right Reverend G. H. Cranswick, second Bishop of Gippsland. It began as a small, primary day school for girls in St Paul’s Cathedral Hall, under the care of Deaconess Marie Sundell. Gradually the size of the school increased and it expanded into the lower secondary grades. During 1927-1928, Miss A. B. Ritchie was Headmistress, but from 1929 Sister Maud Card took over the leadership. The school grew and the first secondary teacher was appointed.

In 1934 Miss Constance Tisdall was appointed Principal of The Church of England School and she vigorously pursued the policy of developing the secondary section of the school and of upgrading equipment and accommodation. During 1934 the name of the school changed to “St Anne’s Church of England Girls’ Grammar School” and a new school badge was formally adopted. In March, 1936 the day school moved to the Raymond Street site, formerly used as the boys’ hostel. Alterations and extensions were undertaken and from 1937 the boarding and day school were accommodated on the one site.

From 1944 the school came under the control of Miss Lorna Sparrow and the school continued to grow and develop.

A meeting was held in July 1959 under the chairmanship of the recently elected Bishop of Gippsland, the Right Reverend D. A. Garnsey. Following this meeting an internal committee was appointed and on 15 October, Gippsland Grammar School was constituted. The School Council appointed the Reverend H. J. Neil as the foundation Headmaster and the new school opened in the old Deanery at St Paul’s Cathedral, with thirty boys, on 9 February, 1960. The first buildings on the twenty five acre site to the north of Bishopscourt were ready by 1962. Extensions took place as the enrolment rose to 119 by 1965.

During 1965 Mr G. H. France was appointed Headmaster – and by the end of 1969 the enrolment had risen to 197 including 64 boarders living in Garnsey House.

The Reverend Charles Sligo became Headmaster from the beginning of 1970 and during that year the decision was taken to amalgamate the boys’ and girls’ schools. The Reverend Charles Sligo became the first Principal of the St Anne’s and Gippsland Grammar School from the beginning of 1971. His vision and leadership enabled the new school to grow and develop a new identity based upon the spirit and traditions of the past, whilst being conscious of the needs of the present and the future.

Mr J. A. T. Beard became the second Principal in 1975. The enrolment grew rapidly during the period 1981-1986 and an extensive building program was undertaken to provide new and attractive classrooms, a modern and equipped gymnasium, a large assembly hall and specialist facilities for music, drama, art, ceramics, home economics, woodwork, graphics and computing. By the time Mr Beard retired at the end of 1989 there were 861 students in the school.

Mr Campbell Bairstow took up the position of Principal at the beginning of 1990. Although school numbers reduced in the period 1990-1994 because of difficult economic conditions, the school took a number of important initiatives. A new campus, “Birchwood House”, was opened in Traralgon for junior primary students, Early Learning Centres were established in Sale and Traralgon and the Chapel of St Anne and Performing Arts Centre was built and consecrated.

Mr A. R. Horsley was appointed Principal upon the resignation of Mr Bairstow and commenced at the beginning of 1995. The school adopted the name of Gippsland Grammar in 1997. Mr Michael Clapper commenced as Principal at the start of 2005 and the school opened an additional primary campus at Bairnsdale at the beginning of 2006.

The former St Anne’s Church of England Girls’ Grammar School site has been developed as a Junior School. The Senior School is located on the former Gippsland Grammar School site, now known as Garnsey Campus on the northern side of Sale. In 2008, Blackwood House (the school’s boarding facility) relocated to a property on Raglan Street which backs onto the Garnsey Campus oval.

Can the Bairnsdale Campus section be replaced with the following: The Bairnsdale Campus is the newest addition to Gippsland Grammar opening in 2006 with a small cohort of 46 students. Since these humble beginnings the campus has grown considerably to a current enrolment of over 120 reaching the capacity of 7 primary classes from Prep - Year 6 and a further 2 Early Learning Centre groups. The Bairnsdale Campus offers high quality education committed to Christian principles and a strong development of each child as an individual. Students are well supported through a variety of pastoral care initiatives and encouraged to always achieve their personal best.

The site of the campus is adjacent to the Clifton Waters Retirement Village on Bullumwaal Road at Wy Yung. This is a beautiful site overlooking a bend on the Mitchell River backwater with elevated views across the Eastwood Estate. The campus is about two kilometres from the centre of Bairnsdale with good access from all directions. Many of our current students live in Bairnsdale and surrounding areas with numerous bus routes available from areas such as Bruthen, Metung, Lakes Entrance, Paynesville and surrounding communities.

Article contains no citations

[edit]

Hi. I can see from a google search that this school exists, but the article contains no WP:RELIABLE sources and read like a WP:PROMOTION. Information on Wikipedia must be cited to reliable sources, similar to the manner in which university assessment tasks like essays and thesis are cited. Wikipedia articles should also use a WP:NEUTRAL tone. I've removed all but the most uncontroversial claims as they are not neutral, sans citations and thus unverifiable. Please see WP:VERIFY for more details about guidelines. Tambor de Tocino (talk) 03:22, 12 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You make mention of the need for "reliable sources similar to the manner in which university assessment tasks like essays and thesis are cited." I presume you mean "like essays and theses [plural for thesis] contain citations." I would suggest that very very very few (if any) university theses contain citations for every sentence, phrase or name in them. However, if you could list five theses (author / title / university and date) in which this is the case, I am happy to stand corrected. AZZ2022 (talk) 10:01, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Tambor de Tocino, As you basically have claimed that all university theses contain citations to every sentence, phrase or name that is mentioned in them, I thought that from the tens of thousands of them written over the years (with thousands now available online), it might have been very easy for you to list five which do so. As you have frequently requested that other people list citations or evidence for their statements, I have been wondering whether you might also be able to do so with your own statement ... but evidently not. AZZ2022 (talk) 14:14, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All claims made on Wikipedia need reliable sources, so if some loser was to come along pointing out spelling mistakes like a sad and conceited old Tory that still wouldn't change the fact that the claims in this article are not cited as required. Tambor de Tocino (talk) 09:07, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh dear ... as soon as you lose an argument, you immediately turn to personal abuse ! I was not referring to Wikipedia policy. I was querying your claim that all university theses contain citations to every point, statement and name in them. As you have not been able to cite a single university thesis to back up your statement, rather than accepting that you made an inaccurate claim, you decide to make attack me for what you assume to be my age and political beliefs, which may, or may not, be accurate. Oh well ... AZZ2022 (talk) 09:26, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever. All claims made on Wikipedia need to be cited to reliable sources, much like a thesis. End of story. Tambor de Tocino (talk) 09:57, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that, and your concession that you were wrong. Much appreciated. AZZ2022 (talk) 12:00, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm, aha. Okay, whatever. Tambor de Tocino (talk) 22:50, 12 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
