Just though I should explain that I've redirected the page from "Glasgow Tigers (BAFACL)" for two reasons: the league is longer called BAFACL, and I feel it would be better to use the sport as the disambiguation (similar to Glasgow Tigers (speedway)) rather than a league name that many people outside of the sport here in the UK wouldn't be familiar with. ~~ Bettia ~~ talk 15:43, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Some proposed changes

[edit]

Information to be added or removed:

  • In information panel

update 'Home stadium' to 'Nethercraigs Sports Centre, Corkerhill, Glasgow'. Update 'Division' to 'NFC1 North'. Update 'Playoff appearances' to '7' and amend ', 2017)' to brackets.

  • Amend introduction text to read:

The Glasgow Tigers are an amateur American Football team based in Glasgow, Scotland. The Tigers compete in the British American Football Association in the NFC1 North division.

The Tigers play their home games at Nethercraigs Sports Centre in the Corkerhill area of the city, and train at both Cambuslang RFC and Riverside Primary School in Govan. The team’s official colours are orange and black.

  • Amend history section to read:

The Glasgow Tigers were originally formed as the Strathclyde Sheriffs in 1985 (Citation: http://glasgowtigersfootball.com/about/). The team was run by officers from Strathclyde Police and entered their first regular season in 1986 where they finished with an 8-2 season, narrowly missing out on the playoffs.[citation needed]

In 1988, the Sheriffs enjoyed their first taste of silverware as they lifted the Caledonian Bowl with a 46-12 victory against Ness Monsters AFC following an undefeated season.[citation needed]

The side went on to reach the semi-finals of the British National Gridiron League Premier Division in 1991 before spending two seasons out the league due to player registration issues (Citation: http://www.britballnow.co.uk/History/Britball%20Teams/STRATHCLYDESHERIFFS.htm), returning to competition in 1993. The Sheriffs entered the Scottish Gridiron Association in 1994, qualifying for the playoffs in 1996.[citation needed]

In 2002, the Sheriffs rebranded as the Glasgow Tigers, playing in the British American Football League. Original Sheriffs players continue to play an important role with the team, serving on the committee and coaching.

Since rebranding, the team have gone on to reach the playoffs five times, most recently making it to the British American Football Association Division Two final in 2017. (Citation: http://glasgowtigersfootball.com/about/)

The Tigers have achieved success at youth level in the past, and currently operate a youth flag team who train at Riverside Primary School in Govan.[citation needed]
