What does "AC" mean? Was there no bronze medalist? --Fang Aili talk 20:47, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There was indeed no bronze medalist (actually, there were no gold medals in 1896--1st place got silver and 2nd got bronze, but the awards have since been retroactively standardised by the International Olympic Committee). "AC" stands for "Also Competed". The judges don't appear to have given placings to anyone past a winner and a runner-up. I'll expand the abbreviation for this and other pages when I get a chance to make it more clear. -- Jonel | Speak 21:59, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. After I posted that I went and read about the 1896 Olympics and figured out what you said above. Perhaps an asterick or footnote explaining what "AC" stands for would be sufficient. A quick explaination about medals in 1896 would be cool too, or perhaps a pointer to that information elsewhere. --Fang Aili talk 15:47, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
