Added verifiable info on bullying at the school. This is now disproportionately large on the page; the solution is to add to the rest of the article.

It is also not a Grammar School, in spite of the name, so I've removed it from that category.

Bullying? This information is 7 years old now. Neither the then headteacher, nor the then chair of governors nor any students of that time are now at the school. Why is this deemed relevant? The information is also supplied by the mother of the boy concerned. This seems like a "campaign" rather than an attempt to inform about the current state of the school.

Even if the bullying information were irrelevant now (and I don't necessarily agree that it is -- people tend to appoint/attract like-minded successors, so possible implications about the culture of the school may still be relevant), the compensation incident was national news and is a significant, verifiable part of the school's history. I agree the content needs to be informative, and not a "campaign". I hope you agree that the current (partially reverted) text gives a balanced account of both sides. 80.68.82.115 22:24, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I should add -- I've reverted the link to www.bullying.co.uk, because its creation was a direct result of John's experiences at the school (whether or not one accepts his allegations). Therefore, John's site is actually part of the history of the school and the incident, and not merely a source of opinion about it. 80.68.82.115 22:32, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Restoring "bullying" info again; had been removed again, with the comment "rv unencyclopedic material and link-spamming (Bullying Online has its own article anyway)". See above for explanation of why it is encyclopaedic.

I've trimmed the restored text, but retained the most significant details. There is no need to make the external link here, as the Bullying Online article is already linked, and in turn provides the external link. This in no way compromises the site's status as a byproduct of the school's history (though I consider the above claim to be slightly overblown). Guy Hatton 08:18, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, that's a good improvement. 80.68.82.115 20:16, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'm glad you approve; I realised after the event that I was probably too hasty in deleting the entire section as the previous editor had. I think that what we have now acknowledges a significant event in the school's history without causing undue imbalance in the article as a whole. Guy Hatton 22:41, 23 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I like the Bullying Online article. I know that broadly speaking, Wikipedia discourages origination or editing of articles by people who have a direct interest in the subject, but this strikes me as a very well written, well-sourced article, very responsibly handled. New head?

[edit]

I'm a pupil at HGS, and Dr. Limbert has resigned to move on to a new school (I think it was either effective August or the new school year), with the deputy (Mr. Trevor Burton I believe) standing in until the new calendar year, when Mr. Richard Sheriff (I kid you not) will be moving from Temple Moor in Leeds to take his place. Shouldn't this be reflected in the page? (sorry, I couldn't get any reference for this, but I believe it was in local newspapers around the end of last school year) --86.136.162.240 14:43, 1 September 2006 (UTC) ^ EDIT: oops, I forgot to log in. That was me. --RKingdom 14:53, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
