But why is it appropriate to define and explain German words in an English language encyclopedia? CBHA (talk) 06:44, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because either a) the word is not easily translatable, b) is widely used by English speakers and/or c) specifically refers to the German use of the term. In this case the word Hauptbahnhof is often not translated because it is part of a proper name and because there is debate over whether it really means 'main' or 'central' station. HTH.
