Beecroft proposal[edit]

The following is content that is just news, about a recent proposal. This is not encyclopedic.

Kate Beecroft, the minister of health, proposed in 2017 that the prescription charge scheme in the island should be altered, increasing the charge to £5 and reducing the categories of people exempt from charges to:

Under 16s
Under 19s in full-time education
Aged 75 and over
Those on benefits
Prisoners

She said that this could raise an annual income £3.86 million from the current level of £692,000, though this would be reduced if more people bought pre-payment certificates.^[1]
