Updating taxonomy

[edit]

It has been at least 5 years since the latest revision of sainouroid classification by Cavalier-Smith (2018), and it has not been disputed as far as I know. I would count Adl et al. (2019) as a dispute, but it seems clear that they did not take into account every taxonomic revision, which is understandable since it would be too much work in too little time, and a lot of changes were made in 2018 while the paper was already being submitted. In addition, all the newly described genera were also created in 2018 (Schuler et al.), and they don't even mention the Cavalier-Smith (2018) paper, so that's not a dispute either. Therefore, the current taxonomy is:

  • Monadofilosa (subphylum of Cercozoa)
    • Ventrifilosa (superclass)
    • Eoglissa (superclass)
      • Metromonadea
      • Helkesea (class), equal to "old Sainouroidea"
        • Helkesida (order), equal to "old Saunouroidea"
          • Sainouroidea (superfamily), which already has the -oidea suffix for superfamilies. It only contains Sainouridae.
          • Helkesimastigoidea (superfamily). It contains two families Helkesimastigidae and Guttulinopsidae.

All the new genera have been placed in already existing families, so there are no contradicting taxonomic decisions. I will be updating it soon. —Snoteleks (Talk) 13:14, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
