Based only on Kalas' claims?
[edit]Looking over the story of his defection, including the references, I'm unclear to what degree the content is Kalas' claims and what can be corroborated by any outsider evidence? For example, in Unelma kommunistisesta Suomesta 1944-1953 historian Mikko Uola is quite skeptical of any of Kalas' claims (no page numbers, at ref 429; translated from original Finnish):
Kalas, who in the Fall of 1944 defected to the German side - or had been captured while drunk according to ValPo - [..] Famous writer Aarne Haapakoski ghost wrote as Kalas a somewhat imaginative, and unsuitable as a reference, adventure book about his experiences all across Europe at and following the end of the war.
