Occupation in the night

[edit]

IIRC from high-school history class, the Soviet occupation was done during the night, without any notice and it scared the hell out of the border guards, who were waken up by the Red Army. :-) bogdan 00:52, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Transliterations

[edit]

It would be great if someone that knows Ukrainian to fix the transliterations of the village names. (the list is on Ukrainian wiki) bogdan 01:22, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Will do. --Irpen 01:51, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Topic of this article

[edit]

In the meanwhile we shoud also decide what this article should be mainly devoted to. If this article is about the modern administrative subdivision of Ukraine, it should be titles Hertsa Raion, similarly to Chernivtsi Oblast. On the other hand, the topic of territorial controversy is also encyclopedic and the article devoted to it can exist as a separate one and under this current name, like Abrene region being currently a separate article from Pytalovo and from future Pytalovo Raion

However, this article is more like about the territory and its history rather than about Romanian parties who want to denouce the border treaties and renounce the membership in NATO, EU, withdraw the signature from Helsinki treaty and make other similarly wise steps since these institutions don't allow its members to have territorial disputes yet unsettled. So, I would think it is best to move the article for consistency with other territorial articles and whoever wants to write another one would be welcome to use the material from this one. --Irpen 01:50, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The article was originally more about the history and territorial controversy. Separation from the current raion is needed as with Abrene/Pytalovo -- leave the history of the territorial contoversy here as Hertza region and put the current info, stats, and village lists into a new Hertsa Raion article. The southern part of the Hertza region doesnt's belong to the Hertsaivskyi Raion, but to the Hlybotskyi Raion. The Hertsaivskyi Raion ist bounded with the city Chernivtsi, by having included a teritory that hat been a part on the northern Bukovina. Please compare this map with this map and you will understand what I mean. Conclusion: Hertza region and Hertsaivskyi Raion are not identical and should not be confused. They should remain described in 2 different articles. --Olahus 09:12, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology

[edit]

The name Hertsa probably comes from Herzog, just like the name Herzegovina does. (Herceg is derived from the German title Herzog). Just in case someone has the time to investigate. —  Ark25  (talk) 21:18, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
