[edit]

I was working on Social Science History Association and found a red link on one of their major topics, "historical dynamics". At first I was going to use cliodynamics, but it is much too narrow in scope to contain all the organizations, data and tools in the regular business of projecting the future of societies - sector by sector for the whole globe. In fact, international development agencies routinely project different sectors of society into the future. The role of historical dynamics will be to simulate the past or future, and project the past to the present for validation of various models of human and social behavior.

With ant colony optimization, particle swarm optimization, and related swarm algorithms, it is possible to simulate complex behaviors of many interacting individuals. For social simulation and social modeling, large scale patterns and behaviors can be welded to microscopic, individual, behaviors of humans and groups.

  • locate social and economic modeling articles on Wikipedia
  • Organize and link to modeling and simulation pages and resources
  • Identify key organizations, summarize their contributions, and link to their resources
  • Identify key database and data coordination efforts - both macro and micro datasets.
  • Improve climate change/economic/social profile
  • Come up with a few examples of the types of problems where historical dynamic simulations would be useful in policy making.
  • Add section on microeconomic models, especially econometric models, and point out leading organizations and models.
  • Add page on World Bank models
  • Add section on development and social indicators, quality of life, Human rights

I am fixing some of the dab links (links to disambiguation pages), and fixing red links. Many of the common terms used in this discipline are not in Wikipedia yet. Some can be fixed with redirects, but other require new articles on Wikipedia. If you are thinking of editing this page, please tackle some of these outstanding items. Contact me if I can be of assistance. RC711 (talk) 19:48, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am adding links to some of the major topics and resources already on Wikipedia for simulating history, society, the economy. Historical simulation is a very large field, with many groups contributing in various ways. I will add hopefully relevant links and see if some patterns emerge. The section on historical simulations and historical games could grow to its own page very quickly.

There are large datasets which can constrain models -- historical checkpoints; that section needs expanding.

Looking for some review articles in peer reviewed journals or sources that discuss portions of this topic. There is so much material, it is hard to select. Concentrating on organizations/associations/groups. RC711 (talk) 13:53, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
