Need new sources

The dated sources provide a very negative, insulting view of efforts in Reconstruction to provide higher education to blacks in the state and of desegregation in the 1960s and 1970s. Let's reflect in this article what the university has on its website these days about the heroic struggle for black education at the university. Charleston had a relatively large proportion of free people of color before the war; the state was losing many talents by prohibiting black education than and underfunding it for so many decades under segregation. The article needs to enter the 21st century in reflecting contemporary views, not 1950s.Parkwells (talk) 23:47, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
