Requested move 17 November 2019[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved as requested per the discussion below and the disambiguation guidelines (note, however, that the disambiguation guidelines do not deprecate the use of the disambiguator "(disambiguation)" where there is a primary topic. Hope Lodge (disambiguation)Hope Lodge – Request move of disambiguation page back to original location, after noticing and moving a page now at Hope Lodge (American Cancer Society) out of the way, to allow for this. I assumed this would be non-controversial, because there are many usages of the term, and the American Cancer Society one does not appear to have overwhelming wp:PRIMARYUSAGE. I think there is no one most prominent/salient usage. However I then noticed that there might be disagreement, because in fact editor User:Werldwayd had moved the disambiguation page out of their way, in February 2018, when they created the American Cancer Society one's page. They asserted it being "very important" in an edit summary. Me, i don't think that usage is primary. By this move discussion, I want to secure ratification that the move of the ACS page was okay, too, i.e. that the main "Hope Lodge" location can again be the disambiguation page. • Support. There are not many usages, only two or maybe three, but they all have low pageviews with none being an obvious primary topic.[1] - Station1 (talk) 03:11, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per Station1, the PA one gets more views. Crouch, Swale (talk) 13:12, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose: I think the ACS run Hope Lodge is the prominent subject. When people say Hope Lodge they primarily mean this network of growing number of outlets (30 and growing including one in Puerto Rico) where cancer patients and their relatives find greatly needed refuge. The other two listed "Hope Lodge"s are just individual pieces of real estate of limited interest to the general public except for their preservation value. I strongly support return of ACS's Hope Lodge as main article that leads to a disambiguation page for the others. Plus I am genuinely surprised the ACS Hope Lodge page I've launched hasn't seen any significant edit ever since. I thought that such a project of immense value would prompt fellow colleagues to develop it further as it serves a huge vital need in society. Relegating it to Hope Lodge (American Cancer Society) further washes down its significance as a veritably vital social project. werldwayd (talk) 14:12, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Is it? Hope Lodge (Whitemarsh Township, Pennsylvania) not only has more views but it also has more content. If the cancer society later gets more views we can always reconsider. Crouch, Swale (talk) 14:22, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support At first, I thought this move was proposing to make the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge the primary topic, but I actually find "disambiguation" qualifiers frustrating. It seems the nom is proposing to move the dab page to "Hope Lodge," which I support. Kudos to the nom, Doncram, for proposing this move because I often find too few editors on Wikipedia who believe in dropping parenthetical qualifiers for dab pages. • Comment. Werldwayd and I communicated some more elsewhere, including at User talk:Doncram#Hope Lodge. I think it is okay for this to be closed and moved. And i have offered to help elsewhere in developing about the ACS stuff. By the way i have started noticing American Cancer Society television ads in which people who are grateful about benefits they've received, seeming to include Hope Lodge type services as well as medical treatment, but interestingly to me there is no mention of the Hope Lodge term. --Doncram (talk) 05:27, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
